For their final unit of the Music BTEC, our Year 13 students needed to plan, organise, and deliver an event. They chose to organise a Cabaret Night and we are grateful to Lily-May’s father and landlord of the Foresters Arms for the use of their function room. As Nimueh Ferdinando describes—”When considering our Music Project at the Foresters Arms, I enjoyed the process immensely, from the initial planning process to the delivery of a successful cabaret night gig. The planning meetings were all succinct and thorough, clearly stating everybody’s role and actions required. After drafting a set list and rehearsal schedule, we started rehearsals with each of us being responsible for a different song on the set list. All participants were well prepared for rehearsal and took charge with leadership skills. We spent the day of the event at the venue, setting up, sound checking and adjusting the levels for each number, as well as mixing the different elements for performance. We reflected upon the success of the layout of the room for the audience and then gave it one last tweak to suit a more cabaret style night. The atmosphere when performing was intoxicating and enthralling.”
