
What will I study?
Lively, relevant, controversial… there are many ways to describe A Level Government and Politics. Covering news and current affairs from the UK and US, it will help students understand how the UK is run whilst developing research, written and debating skills.
The A Level consists of three units, each with a 2-hour exam and each worth 33.3% of the total grade.
Paper 1: Government and Politics of the UK. This unit explores the inter-relationships of different key aspects of British politics in order to understand and appreciate the complexities of the system in the UK.
Paper 2: Government and Politics of the USA. This unit explores the nature and sources of the US political system as a comparative study to the UK exploring issues such as civil rights, pressure groups and electoral systems.
Paper 3: Political ideas This final unit is made up of the study of the core ideologies of Liberalism, Conservatism and Socialism and then one other of either Nationalism or Feminism.

This course is ideal for students considering studying Politics, Sociology, Ethics, Advertising or Journalism at university and is highly regarded by employers in industries including politics, international organisations, the media, government
and the Civil Service.
