Last week, the theme of the assemblies and mentor time activities was National Careers Week. The focus of the week was ‘all about you’, encouraging students to think about their future career paths, whilst focusing on what they can be doing now. The aim was to help students feel confident and less daunted about their future. Happy in the knowledge that they have made decisions about their education and learning that is right for them. The focus of the assemblies were slightly different for each key stage. Key stage three students were encouraged to be curious and ask questions about people’s jobs and careers, as well as thinking about how they can develop their future employability skills by joining clubs and getting involved with wider school activities. The emphasis for key stage four students was to reflect on the skills they have already developed and to investigate future career options.
Finally, Year 12 students had an assembly highlighting many of the resources available to help them to make decisions about their future career pathway, whether that is going to university, apprenticeship or directly to employment. All students will have been made aware that the National Careers Week Website has lots of amazing resources, including webinars from different employment sectors and specific organisations. All these resources will continue to be available after careers week and can be found at https://ncw2022.co.uk/. Clicking on the ‘virtual webinar’, will take you to a floor plan that contains lots of easy to access resources.
The National Careers Week Website is an excellent resource to visit with your child to start a discussion about their future career. Mrs Crane’s Year 12 Travel and Tourism class watched a webinar in their lesson on careers within the industry.
