Future Pathways Hillview School Careers Teams for Parents and Carers
In ever-changing labour markets parents have an increasing crucial role to play, so there is an urgent need that young people and their parents, to understand not only the option within education and training but also the sometime bewildering array of careers progression routes available that follow.
It is important that parents and carers understand that we support your child’s journey towards their final destination right from the start in year 7, giving them ample opportunities in both subjects and mentor sessions to explore a range of careers and the various training routes or ‘pathways’ to these careers.
The world, education and the jobs market are ever changing, and it is critical that we are empowering our students to be resilient and reactive.
There is a need, therefore, to understand how parents and carers can be better supported by schools and colleges to feel more informed and confident with their support and advice.
You can subscribe to Careermag for Parents. This is a termly magazine aimed at parents/carers to help them keep up to date with educational and industry/job market developments, which guides parents/carers and their children through the career journey.
Here at Hillview we use Careers Pilot https://www.careerpilot.org.uk

Career Pilot is used monitor and support future choices for our learners as they each have their own personalise account to access in their own time but in particular for mentor time and PDL activities. There is a free/open access side to the site or speak to your child about what they have been exploring in their account.
In addition, our team will be posting more regularly on the school newsletters about the careers programme. An overall view of the careers programme and each year groups unique journey can be found on the academic year strategic plan as well as on the Careers program for the academic year. The latter being a working document that we will be added to and adjusted as the plan adapts and evolves to the needs of our learners.
